Why is a topic not trending on Twitter
Have you ever wondered why some of your favorite topics, that so many people seem to tweet about, don't trend on Twitter?
Here's why certain topics might not trend on Twitter:
- Very common words (prepositions, conjuctions) might not trend because they independantly carry little to no value.
- Twitter might block certain topics that it might find offensive, or violates their terms.
- A topic might stop trending if it is tweeted so much that it becomes too common. For example, if there are 50,000 tweets/hour about "Justin Beiber" for days together, then it might stop trending.
- If the same set of people keep tweeting about a particular topic, it might stop trending after sometime. For it to trend again, a new set of people need to tweet about it.
While these are some of the general reasons why some topics don't trend on Twitter, the algorithm used by Twitter will have many more reasons why these they don't trend.
